2001: A Space Odyssey

I've seen the movie, but only recently read the novel by Arthur C. Clarke. There are some great scenes in the book, this is one of them. He talks about an age past where structures stand as monuments to past space exploration and achievements. He briefly mentions a structure that rises like a mountain and stands as the tallest building on Earth. The character drives past these launch pads to the airstrip where he takes a private jet to outer space to rendezvous with the space station.
