Cape Reinga marks the point where The Tasman Sea and the Pacific Ocean clash into each other. This meeting of two oceans is often referred to the meeting of a man and a woman.  It is also thought that the spirits of the dead make the journey to leap off the cliff and climb down the roots of an ancient tree to the underworld.
